The Masia La Garriga in the interior from Barcelona is a real Jewell in the Crown: the Roca family have transformed the old 15. century castle into a perfect hideaway – eco-friendly and with a divine view to the Montserrat mountains.

Just a bit of geography: When you drive into the countryside from Barcelona, after one hour you turn onto an interesting hilly mountain road towards the very small village of Castelladral. Just outside this sleepy place, you will find the charming Masia La Garriga, our latest Pretty Hotels discovery.

20 years ago this historic castle was lying in ruins. But the new owners, the local Roca family, have lavishly restored and transformed it into a wonderful hideaway. The Masia now has 14 individually furnished rooms, eight of which are in the main building and six in the new extension with beautiful views to the hilly landscape. The building next door houses a restaurant, a small hut which is illuminated by sunshine all day and where breakfast is served in the morning and dinner in the evening. 

Talking about the food: At Masia La Garriga you may taste homemade fruits and vegetables, which grow in the garden next to your room or you may also discover the traditional way of making wine. Everything here is organic and even more authentic. 

An absolute highlight is the pool at the edge of the property. When you lie here soaking up the evening sun, you have an unbelievably impressive view of the Montserrat mountains. They look as though they have been imported from the South Tyrolean Dolomites.

Ideal for

The Masia la Garriga is a wonderful place to round off a noisy trip to Barcelona quietly. You can find absolute tranquility in the stony corridors and after three days you are once again ready to face the tourist masses at the ocean – (you don’t really have to though :-)).

Wellness

Yes, there is a wonderful small jacuzzi, a sauna and a steam bath in the main building. You can even book treatments such as a massage. Besides that, the patrons daughter Nuria is a fan of yoga and she sometimes organises yoga retreats for other “yoganistas”.

Double room including heavenly breakfast from about 170 euros for two. Dinner is a set meal and costs around 30 euros per person.
