Holidays in a former school – but of course without teachers and classes. Locanda la Scuola in Veneto is a magical bed & breakfast, that should be definitely on your bucket list! 

Those who have never been out and about in the hills of Veneto, should rectify this: Bassano del Grappa (after all the home of the famous jeans label Diesel) or Asiago or even the little village of Lusiana are wonderfully authentic villages, in which Italy is still Italy – and where the view isn’t blocked by hordes of tourists.

Especially in Lusiana we were able to discover a real Jewell in the Crown: Locanda La Scuola, a school from the 1920s and now renovated and turned into a wonderful Bed&Brunch. The amusing thing is: the classrooms are still named after school subjects – geography, arithmetic or the teachers room – all the rooms have been furnished in loving detail and nostalgic elements by the operators, Valeria and Marco. In the morning there’s a delicious breakfast served in one of the former classrooms or in the garden under a tree. In addition there are lots of games and memorabilia dating back to the schools’s beginnings.

The best rooms for families are the science-room with direct access to the schoolyard and the maths-room on the first floor with bunk beds and chalkboard on which you can draw all day.

Ideal for

Couples and families who appreciate small and fine B&Bs and who want to explore the region around Bassano del Grappa. Those who are on their way to Florence and Tuscany can also have a stopover in Lusiana, which is definitely well worth a visit.

Wellness

No, obviously not! There is no pool in the school either.
